I can't believe how fast time has gone by.. feels like it was about a month ago when I started this adventure and now I have about a month and a half left until it all ends..
I have been keeping really busy lately and continue to just love this exchange, love these people and love my life. I have such an incredible host family right now, so it's a great way to end this year off. They are an active family so we go on many different excursions, which is really exciting. They treat me so incredibly well and I am really fortunate for that. I couldn't have asked for a better way to end this year.
Each weekend is filled with different things to do and there is never a dull moment. A few weeks ago there was a 5km race I was signed up for in Bern, the capital city of Switzerland. I had an unfortunate accident with my bicycle and was unable to compete. I had an extremely stiff neck so my doctor put me into a neck brace, and I had bruises and road rash all over. Fortunately my host mom is a nurse and took great care of me, and I am all healed up. I stood at the side lines and cheered on my host parents and my host brother as they competed in the 16km run!! It was sad to not be able to compete but I am really lucky that I wasn't hurt even more after the bike accident! So, my host dad signed me up for another race in about 3 weeks that's 10km and I am very excited for that!!
This past weekend I spent Friday with a good friend of mine, Chris and he taught me how to make home made Sushi! It was so great !! The type of sushi we made was not that difficult, but he had to help me to fold it because that was a little more challenging. It was delicious!
Yesterday I spent the whole day at a Confirmation celebration. Neighbors of ours that are good family friends, had their daughter get confirmed and we all went to the church, then went out for lunch after then went back to their house for coffee and dessert. It was so cool to be in such an old church. It's special for me to go to events like that and see what it's like in different countries. The confirmation was really different than what I was used to, and also the weddings I have been to during the first few months of my exchange. Things are quite different here!
This coming weekend we have a special holiday here in Switzerland so I get a 4-day-weekend.. woo hoo !!! Wednesday night I head to Lenk which is a village in the Swiss Alps, my host family owns a vacation house there. I am going with my host family, my host brothers friend and my best friend here from Mexico, Ana. I am really excited for that, there is nothing like staying in a cottage in the Swiss Alps for 5 days.
School is coming to an end soon, which I secretly am looking forward to. School hasn't exactly been a highlight of my exchange year, it has been pretty challenging so I do look forward to that coming to an end. I just have around 3 and a half weeks of school left!! Then my class and I are off to a house in the Alps for a week together with fun activities planned as our end of the year trip, which is exciting.
As I start rounding the final corner of my exchange year, it is getting pretty emotional. I am just taking it a day at a time and enjoying every last second that I can! People ask me quite often if I am looking forward to going home, and honestly it's half and half. It's going to be really, really difficult to leave my friends and family here, and the life that I live. I like the way things work in this country, the transportation is awesome, the food is incredible and I have really good relationships here. I like being an hour away from the Swiss Alps and living on the border of both France and Germany.. It is a really fun life to live, and I enjoy it a lot. Also, at the same time of course I miss my friends and family back at home and being in my own home.. So I am excited for home as well. Although it's emotional and challenging, I wouldn't want to feel any other way: If I wanted to go home really bad it would have meant I didn't have that great of a year, and if I didn't want to go home at all then it would be really hard to accept leaving in 7 weeks. But, that's not the way it is.. I am at a half and half point and that's the way, in my mind, it should be. I had an amazing year, and I just have to keep remembering I am so lucky to have experienced this incredible journey, and keep continuing my journey once I get home. It won't be easy, it's not easy, but this exchange has given me all the tools to deal with challenges like this, and I know I can do it.
Canada, see you in 7 weeks!!
